ADVANCE PRAISE FOR WE’RE NOT OURSELVES TODAY:

“Wildly reminiscent of the pulpy storytelling of Weird Tales and the taboo terrors of the old EC Horror comics, Lydia Prime and Jill Girardi’s We’re Not Ourselves Today is a scare fest you won’t want to miss! Your host, The Librarian, has darkly delicious tales to share. Spine-tingling yarns that will cause you to sleep with the lights on… if you can even sleep at all!”– Ronald Kelly, Author of Fear and The Essential Sick Stuff

“For a shrieking good time with old-school movie vibes, We’re Not Ourselves Today, is all that and more. Strong leads, feminine horror, creatures, cryptids and terror galore, Lydia Prime and Jill Girardi hit a home run with this collection straight out of the paperbacks from hell era!” Candace Nola, author of Bishop & Desperate Wishes

“From amphibious apocalypses to frozen doppelgängers…carnivorous billfolds to monstrous drug addicts…support groups for lycanthropes to landfill pits to hell…Girardi and Prime effortlessly blend horror, fantasy, science fiction, and all the strange spaces in-between in their otherworldly collaboration, We’re Not Ourselves Today. It’s a phantasmagoric delight!” — Kenzie Jennings, author of Reception and Always Listen To Her Hurt

This was one of those books where I had to re-read passages, to truly appreciate Girardi and Prime’s word threading. Pay attention or you’ll miss a joke or some clues; clues that connect stories; stories that enforce how audacious and unsurprisingly unique women writers are. Together, they’ve built an apothecary full of drugs in story form.

Girardi and Prime unforgivingly write exactly what they want, in the same vein as Jane Austen—exploring the dependence of women, social standings, brutal encounters, astute self-awareness, comedy, and elaborate depictions of characters and their relationships—only, replace many of those Austen-humans with familiar supernatural beasts and creatures, then add some buckets of guts and blood.

Looking through Girardi’s Americana gothica lens and ardent love for Malaysia, paired with Prime’s brazen descriptors of how someone can be decimated, you’ll see the world through cracked glass, forcing yourself to question if you truly feel like yourself today. Co-Editor of New Demons Anthology (With Joe Lansdale)

“We’re Not Ourselves Today by Lydia Prime & Jill Girardi melted my freaking face! Yeah, it is that good. Its gruesome brutality, non-stop tension, and occasional humor makes for one undeniable anthology.” Daemon Manx, author of The Ojanox Series, Abigail, and Manx-iety

We’re Not Ourselves Today is a one two punch from Lydia Prime and Jill Girardi. Alternating back and forth with wonderful slices of depravity to satisfy your horror needs. From cooking shows to killer frogs, I was happily enthralled the entire time. Fantastic. M Ennenbach, author of Cuckoo

“Lydia Prime and Jill Girardi are horror’s new dreamers of the dark fantastic, spinning prose that forces you to keep the lights on long after you’ve put the book down.” – Brandon Scott, Author of Vodou and Castle Deep

“Dirty deeds, dark humour, buckets of gore, vile creatures – and human beings who are even worse – populate this splendid two-woman collection from rock goddesses of horror Lydia Prime and Jill Girardi. Each of the thirteen stories conjures up its own little universe of unspeakable terrors, darker and more twisted than the last. Characters you’d never want to meet but will never forget, and twists of fate that will leave you giddy, are testament to the extraordinary imaginations of their creators. These brilliant, vicious little tales will wrap their tentacles around you, sink their razor teeth into you, and refuse to let you go.” Anna Taborska, award-winning author of For Those Who Dream Monsters and Bloody Britain

“Like Munchies, but worse.” – Billy Nocera, Razorback Recs, Waste City Magazine

“This book had me from the start.  In the first chapter the babies name was Jacob which is my son’s name. The writing is very articulate and vivid. Its like you can see the images of the writing on the page. I absolutely love the cover.” – Jessica Adkins-Roles, Books of Horror

“Girardi pulls you into her stories with her seamless wordsmithing and that gut-wrenching knot in your stomach dares you not to look away. Prime weaves tales so realistic and special that they transport you there, allowing you to share the same atmosphere with her characters. Put the two of them together in one spectacular book and you are in for one kick-ass ride!” – R.E. Sargent, Author and Editor-in-Chief for Sinister Smile Press

“A sleek, dark and disturbing journey into terror, WE’RE NOT OURSELVES collects 13 macabre tales from the wonderfully twisted minds of Lydia Prime and Jill Girardi that are as much fun as they are unsettling. Take the ride, you’ll be glad you did!”— Greg F. Gifune, author of Smoke in Crimson

“The most enjoyable, macabre collection I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a long time.” – Dawn Shea, owner of D&T Publishing
