GREETINGS, BOOKWORMS! I’m Aisha Kandisha, Head Librarian at Kandisha Press. Join me in the dusty stacks of the library I will never leave again as I chat with some of my favorite Women in Horror. Today we feature author Theresa Jacobs!

Nolan, and Stephen Graham Jones, among others. Jacobs continues to captivate readers with her imaginative narratives and compelling characters.
What do you believe are your strengths in writing? And when you feel you need to improve on a particular writing skill, how do you go about it?
Creativity is my greatest writing strength. At least I like to think it is! I feel as though my ideas and how my stories unravel are unique and therefore make them captivating.
What are your thoughts on the book industry today, or more importantly, about the book community?
Coming from the older generation, I’ve watched the industry evolve and adapt with the times. The invention of social media has, for the most part, banned authors of all walks of life together. And it’s thanks to many peers out there that I am as far along as I am today. As the industry changes, so must we.
Do you feel it is getting harder or easier to make it as an independent author these days?
Being indie has never been an easy road but again, through the internet we are not alone and that is the most important aspect to any indie.
Tell us about your work. What story are you most proud of?
As an indie I always write whatever story is in my head—which means I’ve written in seven genres! While horror is my favorite, I have only written four horror novels/novellas, but all my short stories are horror themed. My favorite horror novella, is The Cimmerians, about shadows that can kill. I am most proud of my first sci-fi, Kept. I wondered how humans would adapt and survive if everything that makes us human was taken away. And I mean everything! No clothes, no bodily functions, no “drive” and no food. So, I created their environment and went with where the characters took me. That was both the hardest and the best book I’ve written to date.
What are your upcoming works and plans for the future?
This part is tough for me. My life flipped (as did everyone’s) during the worldwide C—event and I lost my mojo. I have a few chapters in the works on book three for my Detective Gagon series. I am three quarters the way through a dystopian novel (this has a screen play making its way around the circuit and they want a novel to help sell it). And I’ve begun a new horror set in a bookstore. While I used to drop two books a year, these have been ongoing since 2023. My plan is getting my mojo back!
