What do you believe are your strengths in writing? And when you feel you need to improve on a particular writing skill, how do you go about it?
I am a ‘People’s Person’. My strength is my keen sense of observation and imagination. I look at people, talk to them and write of what I see around me in life -the good, the bad, the occult, the spiritual. Life gives me fodder for my writing. When I feel the need to improve on skills I introspect. I read the latest works of authors whose work has got them critical acclaim and try to improve on my skills without compromising on my own creativity.
What are your thoughts on the book industry today, or more importantly, about the book community?
My daughter – in- law, Jaya understands my love for reading. She recently took me to a Book Fair. The crowd at the Book Fair was immense. People were browsing over Books, asking for particular authors discussing the works of writers. I was happy to see the Book Community thriving. The crowd at the Book Fair made me realize that thankfully the internet has not overtaken Book Reading.
Do you feel it is getting harder or easier to make it as an independent author these days?
It is getting harder for independent authors to get their writings published. There are many talented writers, but they are unable to get their writings published. You need an agent to market your writing. One cannot afford to avail the services of an agent. If you are a celebrity writer it is easy to get your writings published but if you are a struggling writer the only certain thing is the uncertainty in getting your work published.
Tell us about your work. What story are you most proud of?
I have been writing for nearly two decades. At 72 it is my writing which keeps me alive. Writing and reading are stress busters a form self-expression for me. My work explores human stories. I am blessed to have a supportive family who understand my creative eccentricities it amuses them sometimes, they indulge me. The story I am most proud of is, “Redemption” published by Amazon. I am proud of this work because it explores the folk lore that water is sacred. If there is Sin waters dry up in wells. If mankind tramples on Nature, cutting trees, polluting waters there will be no rainfall, the wrath of Gods will descend and famines will occur.
What are your upcoming works and plans for the future?
I am have just finished writing a short story on an Acid attack Victim. I am. collecting material to write a Novel. Hopefully I will try to get my Novel published next year.
