GREETINGS, BOOKWORMS! I’m Aisha Kandisha, Head Librarian at Kandisha Press. Join me in the dusty stacks of the library I will never leave again as I chat with some of my favorite Women in Horror. Today we feature author Candy Madonna! Candy’s story “Karma and Camile” is featured in PRETEND YOU DON’T SEE HER: THE INVISIBLE WOMAN (Kandisha Press 2025 Women of Horror Anthology.)

CANDY MADONNA – Candice Madonna Eaker, also known as Candy Madonna is an American author from North Carolina. Traveling the world with her magical husband and constantly expressing ideas with her three incredible children that offer so much life and inspiration to her world. Candy has an Eclectic style of writing. Her first published piece is a spiritual self- help book Gotta Be Shifting Me published by Balboa Press. Now she focuses more on horror genres where she feels her deepest connection and passions. Guided by the spirit world, she writes what is presented to her. Living a life filled with ghosts and now she writes their stories.
Camile is a very interesting character, heartbreakingly pure but at the same time, she had a dark side about her that is only waiting to be revealed. How did you come up with these dual personalities?
Everyone has a side they show the world and a side they keep hidden. Sometimes people forget which is shown and which is hidden, that is where the truth is revealed. Camile is a sweet, abused girl that was left to fend for herself, to preserve her innocence she created a protector.
What inspired you to write this story, and how can the ordinary, “invisible” woman relate to Camile?
Often, we look for a superhero to save us in our times of despair. Superheroes rarely show up and sometimes we must become our own superhero or in this case alter ego “demon” that offers protection.
What does your creative process look like when you’re writing? Do you have any special rituals or routines?
Writing for me is often like channeling another energy. I like to do meditation and sink into character before I begin writing. I always keep pads and paper with me to write down random thoughts or synchronicities that show up at any given time. You never know when inspiration will strike.
What else are you working on? Any projects you’re especially excited about?
I have several horror stories I have written, sitting on the side lines waiting for the perfect moment to unleash them.
