IN THE LI-BURY WITH FAITH PIERCE

Welcome everyone, I’m The Li-Bury-An, and today we have a spotlight on Faith Pierce

Faith Pierce is a name you will be hearing a lot about in the near future. Her debut novel will be published by the legendary Crystal Lake in 2022! Her story in our Women of Horror Anthology is not only one of the most entertaining horror tales in the book, but has a deeply important message regarding the way women are viewed and treated in society, and most importantly, perhaps, the way we are taught to view ourselves. In the story, her main character, Grace, is a shadow girl, her physical body tucked away in a room until she’s ready to inhabit it. Will she ever find a mate and earn the right to her own flesh?

“She was shaking her head vehemently. ‘Ladies may not have bodies ‘for themselves’; they are a gift for your mate. You do not have a mate and therefore have no one to give it to. Frankly, knowing you harbor ideas like this, I’m beginning to understand why.’”

From “Bodiless” by Faith Pierce

Today, Faith talks about how she came up with her story “Bodiless” for THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY : Women of Horror Anthology Volume 3. Out now from Kandisha Press!

“In recent years, we’ve started having a lot of complex, long overdue conversations about consent. Listening to other women’s experiences had me thinking about my own formative experiences and about the way women engage in these conversations (or don’t) from a young age. Something I kept coming back to was how some of the more fundamentalist branches of different religions teach women about sex and about their bodies. Women are often taught about sex as being for another person and about their bodies as a thing to be preserved for someone else’s use. And that thought is what spawned my story Bodiless. I just took the issue of women having no ownership of their own bodies and made it literal.”

FAITH PIERCE writes horror, dark fantasy, and other forms of speculative fiction. She’s written a handful of short stories, and her first novel will be published with Crystal Lake in 2022. She grew up in a small town in Texas and now lives in Missouri. Find her on Twitter @faithepierce
