First of all, thank you so much for doing this! I appreciate the time you give to it.

I subbed to this call for three reasons:

• Jill Girardi is a champion of women’s horror and amazing to work with. She’s efficient, professional, as well as being a wonderful person.
• Secondly, I had a story published in Volume 2, Graveyard Smash, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, especially sharing a TOC with such an awesome bunch of gals!
• I was so lucky with this call because only a few weeks earlier I’d written a story that fitted the theme perfectly. It saved…

It is finally February 1^st 2021 and the official release day for The One That Got Away. And of course, it is Women in Horror Month!

We are celebrating the launch of our amazing book and we hope that you will join us!

Why did you sub to this particular call, what pulled you in?

I liked the theme. I’m a big fan of infusing romance and relationships into my horror. I think it creates an interesting dynamic, especially since I like getting into the minds of women who kill. What are they like in relationships? How does this affect their drive to murder, if at all?

The name for the anthology drew me in. The name brought so many different concepts to mind. I was excited to get to work on a story, but I also excited to see what others would write as well. Seeing the teasers Kandisha Press have been posting these last few days have me more anxious to read it!

Interestingly enough, I was already working on this story when I saw the call and thought, “perfect!” I rarely have something ready to go when I see a call I’m interested in. That’s one of my goals for this year, to have a backlog of stories on hand so that when I see a call that interests me, I can see what works or if I can adapt an existing piece.
